About Great Strides

“There is a place where hearts become lighter and spirits soar…Great Strides”

Our Mission

Our mission in Great Strides is to provide physical therapy exercises and recreation for riders with physical and or mental disabilities through horseback riding and related activities.  Research has shown that horseback riding is one of the most beneficial of all forms of therapy for the physically, mentally, or emotionally challenged. When riding a horse the disabled rider experiences a feeling of balance, suppleness, ease, confidence and joy. The movement of the horse stimulates muscles to build strength and the relationship with the horse opens up many opportunities for communication and socialization.
Great Strides has been an operations since 1994 we have many dedicated volunteers along with a PATH instructor . Our financial support comes from United Way of Bedford County, Shelbyville Civitan Club and independent donors. We want all our riders to achieve their individual potential and to have fun and be safe above everything else.
